Visa Liberalization Drives Tourism Surge in Vietnam

Since August 2022, Vietnam has extended visa-free stays to 45 days for citizens from 13 key countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Additionally, all tourists are now eligible for three-month visas. These changes have significantly boosted international arrivals, which have nearly reached pre-pandemic levels.

In the year following these policy reforms, Vietnam welcomed nearly 16 million international visitors, representing a remarkable 99% recovery compared to the 2018-2019 figures. The first seven months of 2024 saw 10 million arrivals, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 2%, according to the report of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Visitors from the 13 visa-exempt nations have been particularly significant, contributing to 37% of total arrivals. Russia and Italy have experienced especially impressive growth, with increases of 75% and 61%, respectively.
