Cuc Phuong National Park opens night tours

From 4th May 2024, The Cuc Phuong National Park is officially open for night tours on a scale of about 5km. Tourists will be able to travel on an electric vehicle to explore, and experience watching fireflies and wild animals at night. 

Cuc Phuong National Park (or Cuc Phuong Forest) is a nature reserve and special-use forest located in the three provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, and Thanh Hoa. The main gate of the forest is located in Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh. This place has a rich and diverse flora and fauna, typical of tropical rainforests.

With an applicable flashlight, tourists will get to see wild animals that have nocturnal habits such as roe deer, deer, pangolins, striped civets, squid civets, wild cats, lorises, and diverse insects… live at night in the forest.

Each tour will last an hour every night, with approximately 10 people in an electric van. The standard time to visit Cuc Phuong National Park at night is from 19h to 22h every night of the week. The last group of the night will start their trip at 20h45. The tour is only limited to 100 people per trip, to ensure not affecting the wild wildlife environment of the animals.

With new and exciting experiences from the start, the tour receives a broad of attention from tourists. The night tour starts from the experience and creativity area for children, the electric van carries tourists and guides of the national park, through dark trails in the forest. Firefly lights like stars gradually appeared, flickering in the foliage.

The electric van will go for about 30 minutes around the forest edge area and follow a circle. In the remaining time, tourists will experience the fresh atmosphere of the old forest in pitch dark.

A special program on the Mid-Autumn Festival when staff and children release injured animals back into the wild.

This experience will help visitors understand more about rescue and forest conservation work, helping to raise awareness of environmental protection, natural ecosystems, and rare and wild animals. Visitors may also be lucky to observe rare animals such as pangolins, striped civets, squid civets, wild cats, otters, and lorises. The tour also helps participants understand forest rescue and conservation work.

Mr. Dang Tien Dung – a representative of the communications department of Cuc Phuong National Park, said: “Since the day the night tour opened, there have been many visitors every night.” The most crowded usually happens on Saturday and is expected to welcome 100 – 200 guests to participate in the experience.

In addition to the night tour, visitors to Cuc Phuong during butterfly season can also see tens of thousands of butterflies flying around. 

To have the best tour experience, visitors need to prepare all the essential personal items including long clothes, and mosquito and insect repellant. You should wear flat shoes and sandals for ease of movement, do not wear high heels because there are sections that require walking to experience. In addition, you can bring a camera to take beautiful pictures, and binoculars to observe flora and fauna more easily.
